Since 2013, New Europeans has made a real difference for citizens across Europe, protecting rights, shaping debate in parliaments and building lasting partnerships for democracy.
What we have achieved
- Guarantees for EU citizens’ rights: we helped secure unilateral, comprehensive guarantees of EU citizens’ rights in the UK after Brexit
- Votes for life: we campaigned for the abolition of the 15-year rule, so that British citizens living abroad no longer lose their right to vote in UK elections. It was scrapped in 2024
- EUSS Alliance and All-Party Parliamentary Group: helping EU citizens secure their status under the EU Settlement Scheme, and championing citizens’ rights in the House of Commons through the APPG on Citizens’ Rights
- #VoteDenied: in 2019 we exposed the scale of the scandal in which over 1 million EU citizens in the UK were denied their vote in the European Parliament elections
- New European People’s Forum: after years of campaigning for a pan-European platform for citizens’ democracy, we created one, merging with Europe’s People’s Forum in 2023 to give people a direct voice in shaping Europe’s future
- Defending Democracy Global Initiative: co-founded in 2024 with partners in North Macedonia and Germany to defend truth, protect freedom and build resilience
- Westminster Alliance for Ukraine: set up in 2025 to bring parliamentarians and civil society together in support of Ukraine’s freedom and European future
- Four awards: the Sheila McKechnie Foundation People’s Choice Award, the FT Future of Britain Award, the CiDAN/ESDA Europe Award for European citizenship and human rights, and the Schwarzkopf Europe Award
We also campaigned for
- EU Green Card for EU citizens in the UK and Britons in Europe, presented to the European Parliament in 2019
- Confirmatory referendum before the Withdrawal Agreement passed into law
- European Health Union during the Covid-19 pandemic
- Conference on the Future of Europe (2021–2022), and a permanent citizens’ assembly to carry its work forward
