Third sector support

New Europeans UK is helping third sector, voluntary and community organisations support their service users applying to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).

In November 2019 we produced a report on the third sector’s role in EUSS support. The report, based on a survey of the sector, found that 82% of respondents considered their clients to be at risk of either not knowing about the scheme, not applying for it, or being refused the status. However, people working in the third sector, when asked, felt as ill-informed as applicants about the process of applying.

We are particularly concerned that the scheme is not currently as accessible to vulnerable EU citizens as it should be, and the Home Office estimates that 200,000 people will need support applying for the scheme. Our work seeks to support  the third sector, and to ensure information about EUSS reaches as many people as possible.

We organise free training sessions to give staff a background on EUSS and related issues, and we run application workshops with those needing to apply. We are also starting conversations and developing activities with the third sector on the issues and challenges EU nationals and communities will face once the UK has left the EU. If you are in the third sector and interested in talking to us about your organisation’s needs in regard to this, please do get in touch with our EU Londoners Development Officer, Lydia, at Lydia.Martin@neweuropeans.net.

Together with the Lloyds Bank Foundation, we produced a webinar that  gives advice and information on supporting vulnerable clients through the Settlement Scheme application process.
