Newcastle upon Tyne is a university city on the River Tyne in northeast England.
With its twin city, Gateshead, it was a major shipbuilding and manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution and is now a centre of business, arts and sciences. Spanning the Tyne, modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge, noted for its unique tilting aperture, is a symbol of the 2 cities.
Newcastle is a member of the Eurocities network which brings together the local governments of over 130 of Europe’s major cities from 35 different member states and countries.
Depending on the interest of local members, the aim of the Newcastle branch is to meet regularly and take initiatives in the community on behalf of New Europeans.
Through Russell Foster, our regional coordinator for the North East we consult regularly with the branch about New Europeans' campaigning priorities and future developments.
Once a year, the Newcastle branch meets to elect the branch chair and the branch action team. Appointment of the branch chair is then ratified at the New Europeans AGM.
New Europeans has been reaching out to EU citizens in Newcastle though our Living Rights programme
