The Upshift Movement

The Laszlo Institute and New Europeans International have launched a collaborative project called The Upshift Movement, to energise conversations about our common future, mobilise citizen activism and heal the twin traumas caused by COVID and war in Europe.

We warmly invite your participation both in an individual capacity and/or as an organisation. | Join here

The challenges we face

"We talk about democracy. But we don't practice it." (Ervin Laszlo, Founder, The Laszlo Institute)

In 'The Upshift: the Path to Healing and Evolution on Planet Earth',  Ervin Laszlo, philosopher and public intellectual, sets out his manifesto for a future transformed by the power of unconditional love.

Ervin Laszlo, (Interview with Mariella Caruso, The Wise Society)

By unconditional love, Laszlo means regard for self, for others, and for our world, an impetus inherent in every human being and the only power that can make life on our  planet sustainable.

"Is there a problem in the world today that cannot be made better through the power of  love?"  (Roger Casale, founder of New Europeans)

Roger Casale (EURECA project, Europe Day Event, Brussels, 9 May 2022)

How do we mobilise the power of unconditional love, and put it to work in our world to revitalise our democracy and safeguard our survival?

What is peace beyond simply the absence of war? Do we not need to build peace in our daily lives by listening to one another, through simple acts of concern, civility and kindness?

Where are the dials governments can turn to stop global warming - do they exist? Can we change our behavior to mitigate the runaway consequences of climate change?

Who is responsible for our physical, emotional, mental and intimate well-being? How can we take better care of ourselves and of our neighbours?

When will Europe become a safe space for democracy, human rights and the rule of law? How can we as citizens do more to secure the foundations of our common European home?

Whose future is so unimportant that it can be left in the hands of politicians? How can we as citizens find our voice, exercise our rights, and take our destiny in our own hands?

"To be or not to be?" The time-honoured question which William Shakespeare puts in the mind of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.

We at the Laszlo Institute and New Europeans International would like to know and share your answers to that existential question and all that flows from that.

This is why we are launching The Upshift Project, and what our project is about.

Take the next steps

"Never underestimate the power of a small group of commited people to change the world. In fact it is the only thing that ever has." (Margaret Mead, anthropologist)

To welcome you to The Upshift Movement, we will send you an informative e-booklet with our compliments  | Join here

Having signed up with your name and email address, it's now time to take the next steps.

The first of these is to make your contribution. Tell us about your ideas for creating a better world, and how you and others can make a difference.

What kind of living is wise for people to adopt today?

We will review your response to our call - the ideas and projects for wise living to which you pledge commitment.

We will share your responses.

We will bring you together with people with similar or complementary ideas and commitments.

Participants receive newsletters and invitations to take part in activities and events linked to the project – these will take place both in person and as online events.

Events will be charted on a map on The Upshift Movement website.

As the network of collaborating individuals and organisations grows, we will see a burgoning of initiatives and activities aimed at putting the power of unconditional love to work in the wolrd to promote wiser living and a more sustainable future for humankind.

The Upshift Movement is a grass-roots project aimed at inspiring and empowering citizens to challenge narratives of despair, overcome hatred and division and bring hope for a better future to a troubled world.

We look forward to working with you to make the project a reality.
