The European Parliament President David Sassoli will host a high-level conference bringing together parliamentarians from across Europe with migration experts to explore new ideas for a sustainable EU migration and asylum system.
The conference is organised by the European Parliament and the German Bundestag, in cooperation with the Portuguese and Slovene parliaments, and the European Commission.
In a joint oped on World Humanitarian Day (19 August, 2020) Nazek Ramadan, Director of Migrant Voice and Roger Casale, founder of New Europeans publilshed a joint oped in Voxeurop reflecting on Europe's responsibility to welcome refugees and safeguard human rights in the Mediterranean: Has Europe turned its back on the duty to care
This was followed by a further joint oped in Voxeurop by Piotr Kaczynski, Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Relations, and Roger Casale, in response to Pope Francis' statement on the Catholic Church's World Migrants Day: It's not a sin to talk about migration.
Both articles can be seen as New Europeans' contribution to the preparations for the high level conference taking place today.
