International Universal Health Coverage Day

Saturday, December 12, 2020

International Universal Health Coverage Day  is celebrated annually on December 12 and is promoted by the World Health Organization, aiming to raise awareness of the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners.

In the European Union, New Europeans is working with the Citizens Take Over Europe alliance, Europe Future Fringe and others to promote a European Health Union which would provide universal access to health services as one of the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic response.

New Europeans would also like to sign post the important work of the #StatusNow4All network which is calling on:

"the British and Irish States to act immediately so that all undocumented, destitute and migrant people in the legal process in both the UK and Ireland are granted Status Now, as in Leave to Remain.

In this way every human, irrespective of their nationality or citizenship, can access healthcare, housing, food and the same sources of income from the State as everyone else. "

The Leicester Human Rights and Arts Festival together with #StatusNow4All ran a 90 minute conference about the campaign to mark International Human Rights Day on 10 December.
