30 May 1778  marks the passing of VOLTAIRE, French writer and philosopher, particularly representative of the Century and the Spirit of Lights.

His campaigns against intolerance and in favour of justice and freedom of thought, run through all his work.

Novels, stories, plays, poems, Voltaire left a huge body of work and became the symbol of the French man of letters.
