Join the European Civic Forum for a two-day conference in Brussels on 4-5 December 2019 titled “Civil Society for Rights and Equality – Towards a Democracy that Gives Voice to All”.
The main purpose of the conference will be to bring together the contribution of civil society to the strengthening of European democracy, fundamental rights and values, building on the outcomes and proposals stemming from our two-year campaign “Make Europe Great for All” engaging civic actors across Europe in the context of the EU2019 elections.
This event will be an opportunity for key civil society actors from across Europe to discuss with high level representatives of EU and international institutions about the main challenges facing democracy in Europe today and the role civil society can play to revive support for European values and trust in democratic institutions.
We will present on this occasion our first annual report on the State of Civic Space in Europe based on findings from Civic Space Watch.
Participants in this round table debate organised in partnership with Civil Society Europe are expected to put forward proposals to leverage future work of EU institutions for a more values-based Europe and a strategic approach towards strengthening civil society's space to contribute to this goal.
The event will also be the opportunity to officially launch the Civic Pride Days, a transnational mobilisation of civic actors and grassroots movements aimed at acknowledging the role played by civil society in upholding fundamental rights and strengthening the bonds in our societies.
The Civic Pride will start with the presentation of Stories of Resistance, which will reward inspiring struggles of activists, organisations, associations, collectives of people fighting for fundamental rights (equality, inclusion, dignity, sustainability and justice) against growing political apathy, consumerism, exclusion and individualisation in Europe.
