In 1964, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided that 5 May, the anniversary of the founding of the Council of Europe, should be celebrated as Europe Day.
(The EU celebrates Europe Day on 9 May. The date marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration of 1950, considered to be the first official step in the creation of what is now the European Union.)
To celebrate, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg holds an Open House and members of New Europeans Strasbourg look forward to joining members of the public and other visitors at this event.
