71st Anniversary of the Council of Europe

Date:
Wednesday, May 5, 2021

In 1964, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided that 5 May, the anniversary of the founding of the Council of Europe, should be celebrated as Europe Day.

The EU celebrates Europe Day on 9 May. The date marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration of 1950, considered to be the first official step in the creation of what is now the European Union.
