Tibor Szanyi was born in Budapest in 1956, studied economics and international trade, and obtained PhD in economics. He speaks Hungarian, English, Italian, German and Russian.
As Member of the European Parliament from 2014, he joined to the work of the AGRI, ENVI, ECON, PANA and EMIS Committees. Besides that, he is first vice-chair of the Delegation to the EU- Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee and substitute member of the delegation related to the European Economic Area.
Before becoming a MEP he was the Member of the Hungarian Parliament, elected four times successively (1998 - 2014). He has been Member of the board in the London based Policy Network since 2004, and he was State Secretary for the Ministry of Economics and Transportation (2004-2006) and State Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2002 - 2004). He worked as the Hungarian Permanent Secretary of the FAO Representation in Rome (1982 - 1985).
