On secondment to Mayor of London
Bella is currently on secondment to the Migration team at the Greater London Authority, leading on the Mayor of London's work for European Londoners and will rejoin the team in April 2021.
Through the Citizenship and Integration Initiative (CII), Bella has been delivering the Mayor's London Is Open campaign, supporting European Londoners in securing their right to stay in the UK after Brexit. Over five thousand Europeans and their families have to date received free advice on the EU Settlement Scheme through various outreach activities; the Mayor hosted the first-ever EU Settlement Ceremony, celebrating European cultures and thanking Europeans for making the capital their home, and awarded over £100,000 in micro-grants to community organisations supporting Europeans in London.
Bella is firmly committed to migrants' rights and, in addition to her role at New Europeans, has worked at organisations such as the Hackney Migrant Centre, Migrants' Rights Network and ILPA where she ran the Strategic Legal Fund for vulnerable young migrants. She set up the Migrant Hub in Greenwich, a weekly drop-in centre for vulnerable migrants and developed and ran the Community Integration Awards, which celebrates and awards integration projects in the UK. She is currently also a director at MigrationWork CIC.
